What the hook analyzer measures

The first 15 seconds of a YouTube video are where most channels lose 30–50% of their audience. Our hook analyzer watches your video's opening the way a viewer would — looking at structure, not just keywords — and scores it on the four dimensions that actually predict retention:

  • Promise clarity. Does the viewer know what they'll get within 5 seconds?
  • Tension loop. Is there an open question, contradiction, or unresolved situation?
  • Pattern interrupt. Does something visually or audibly shift to (re)capture attention?
  • Pacing. Is the visual rhythm fast enough to recover from the suggested-video click?

Each dimension gets a 0–10 score. The composite tells you whether your hook is strong enough to beat the average drop-off curve.

Why hooks matter more than titles

Title and thumbnail get the click. The hook decides whether the click becomes a view. A great video with a weak hook still underperforms, because YouTube's algorithm weights early retention heavily when deciding whether to recommend a video. A strong hook is the single highest-leverage thing you can improve.
